A terraced garden with difficult access
Mr and Mrs Dalton owned a steep west facing front garden which included a single drive to the garage & a flight of seven concrete steps up to the front door.
The existing terracing was disintegrating and the planting was over grown giving the front of the property a tired and tatty appearance.
The Brief
- To widen drive to double width
- To replace concrete steps with sloped path, allowing for likely future wheelchair access
- To retain and improve seating area on upper level which benefits from the evening sun & good views
- To have planting with a 'wow' factor as clients were keen gardeners
The Outcome
- The widened drive and sloped path were both paved with local bricks creating a welcoming and accessible entrance to the property
- Planting has more than fulfilled the clients' expectations by creating a stunning front garden with year round interest
- Larger seating area benefits from the evening sun with views to the distance
What The Client Says
"We are extremely pleased with our decision to use Mary Stevenson to design the garden.
The plants started filling out during the summer and did indeed soften the hardness of all the brickwork.
We are now looking forward to this year’s growth which should fill in most of the remaining empty space and give us a practically weed-free garden."
