Developing a unique brand for a local, family-run gin distiller.
Parched Pony is a premium gin distilled by a family in Bedfordshire, who have a passion for the chemistry and unique blend of botanicals used to create something truly special. They’re not interested in selling huge numbers, it’s all about quality over quantity, whilst having some fun along the way.
A longstanding relationship.
The Parched Pony team are no strangers to MSGD, having worked with them on various projects over the years, they approached us once again to help them develop a brand for their latest venture of distilling gin.
The brief was to keep the brand light-hearted, laid back, but with a handmade feel to it to emphasise its origins and the low quantity of gin that is crafted. They’re fun-loving people so we wanted this to be reflected across the brand.
Getting into character.
We carried out our branding discovery session to unearth the brand attributes and target audience. We set about creating a series of stylescapes to visualise our intentions for the brand moving forward and felt the Parched Pony would make a great character – an ambassador for the brand, perfect for marketing collateral across all print and digital media, enabling the brand to be easily recognised throughout.
We used an etched illustrated style to emphasise the handmade feel in order to create an eccentric-looking pony who’s dying for a drink of the fine stuff and matched it with an illustrated style typeface, combining the two to create a complete logo lockup.
A different type of packaging.
Parched Pony’s master distiller’s day job is a workshop owner and vehicle technician. We wanted to bring through an element of this to the gin brand by creating the packaging using an old oil tin / brake cleaner tin instead of your typical glass bottle. Not only does this tie in nicely with another family-run business of theirs, but it helps stand out against competitors by having something a little bit different.
Although not on the shelves of the major players, yet, we look forward to seeing the brand develop and continue to support them with creative assets including animation, social media imagery and a new website to help provide a stronger value proposition.
